On March 8th the 10th Anniversary of the Courier Program Service to the Ottawa Hospital by the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society was celebrated. Approximately 50 guests gathered at the Ottawa Hospital and reminisced about the beginnings that has resulted in a most effective program. Sheryl McDermid provided her personal perspective of the challenges that were being felt by the transplant group and they continue to be very pleased with the service. Dr. Lothar Huebsch also gave his view on how the technology has evolved and provided an insight into the future of stem cell applications and the demands for solving medical challenges there will be. Dena Mercer, Director of OneMatch, emphasized the current diversification needs of the registry and that will continue into the future.
The Ottawa Chapter made a presentation to Dr. Harold Atkins from the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in the amount of $5,000.00, to be used for stem cell research and the “Little Angels’ Program. Thanks to Bob Taylor for liaising with the TOH Foundation and the research into their funding needs.
